Interventional Radiology
Florida Interventional Specialists (FIS), a division of RAF, has been providing vascular and interventional radiology services to area hospitals for more than 50+ years.
With over 35,000 procedures performed annually and 15 full time IR physicians, FIS has one of the highest procedural volumes of any interventional practice in the state. FIS’s board certified interventional radiologists are active providers of treatment for a variety of conditions across multiple medical specialties including oncology, vascular medicine, hepatology, urology, gynecology and pediatrics encompassing both general medicine and surgery.

Interventional Radiology Ambulatory Clinic
Continuity of care is as important in interventional radiology as in other treatment modalities. For this reason, RAF maintains free-standing, dedicated ambulatory clinics for Interventional Radiologists to perform pre-treatment and post-treatment ambulatory care. Clinics are staffed by RAF physicians and nurse practitioners. Patients can seek primary or secondary opinions regarding state of the art interventional radiology treatment options. New patients are seen in consultation to review their imaging, discuss the procedure and treatment plan and have the process of the procedure day explained. Follow-up visits are performed to assure treatment expectations have been met and arrange any long term follow-up.
Minimally-Invasive Cancer Treatments
Minimally-invasive cancer treatments are a significant focus of our program. Procedures such as percutaneous image guided microwave ablation, cryoablation, chemoembolization and radioembolization provide a cutting-edge alternative to surgery. These therapies have replaced many surgical procedures or are performed in conjunction with traditional surgery to improve survival. Most importantly these techniques have lower morbidity, side-effects and inpatient hospital stay.
Complex Minimally-Invasive Treatments
FIS plays a key role in the kidney and liver transplant programs at Tampa General Hospital. Our physicians also perform a wide range of vascular procedures such as stent placement, balloon angioplasty, endovascular stent graft repair of thoracic and abdominal aneurysms, complex IVC filter retrieval and venous/pulmonary thrombolysis. We have a comprehensive embolization service that treats vascular malformations, pelvic congestion syndrome and uterine fibroids along with an unparalleled experience in the treatment of endoleaks, a complication of endovascular aneurysm repair. Treatments for portal hypertension, superficial venous disease, DVT therapies are just a few of the additional complex therapies our group performs. FIS is one of only a few groups in the United States who perform prostate artery embolization (PAE), a novel technique in which benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) can be treated without surgery.
Academic Focus

Dr. Sandeep Garg
Our Interventional Radiology physicians have a strong academic focus. Most of our physicians have appointments at University of South Florida, where we have trained future interventional radiologists in an ACGME accredited residency program for over 20 years. Our physicians are involved in several clinical trials and are guest speakers at national IR conferences on a variety of topics. Several physicians are involved in training of physician peers at the USF Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS), a state-of-the-art healthcare simulation facility in Tampa.
